Support — Clock It
Help, questions, and account requests for the Clock It alarm app.
Clock It is a chaos alarm for deep sleepers: it plays a different harsh wake sound every morning, can fire at a random time inside a window around the time you set, and gates dismissal behind a wake-up mission instead of a button.
It exists because heavy snoozers habituate to any alarm they can predict — so Clock It removes the predictability rather than just getting louder.
Alarms & sound
My alarm didn't ring
Almost always one of these, in order of likelihood:
- The Ring/Silent switch on the side of your iPhone was set to silent. This is the big one. Clock It's alarm is delivered as a notification sound, and iOS mutes all notification sounds when the phone is on silent — no third-party app can play through that switch. If you sleep with your phone on silent, Clock It will be quiet. Flip the switch to ring before bed.
- Notification Sounds or Banners are turned off. Go to Settings → Notifications → Clock It and make sure Allow Notifications, Sounds, and Banners (or Lock Screen) are all on, and that the delivery style is not "Deliver Quietly". A quietly-delivered alarm lands silently in Notification Center and you'll only hear it when you next open the app.
- Volume was turned down. Raise the ringer volume, not just media volume.
- The app hadn't been opened in a while. Clock It queues several days of alarms with the system in advance, but it can only top that queue up when you open it. If you force-quit the app and don't open it for many days, the queue eventually runs out. Opening Clock It once in a while re-arms it.
- Low Power Mode or a very low battery can delay or suppress notification delivery.
If you've checked all of the above and an alarm still didn't fire, email us with the date and time it was set for and we'll dig in.
Clock It is not a guaranteed wake-up service. Alarm delivery depends on your device's OS, notification settings, silent switch, volume, battery and background limits. Always keep a backup alarm for anything safety-critical or time-critical.
Why can't I choose my own alarm sound?
This is deliberate, and it's the core of how Clock It works. A sound you picked is a sound you already like and already expect — and your brain habituates to an expected sound within days, which is exactly why every other alarm "works for a while, then stops". Clock It plays a fresh tone from a large bundled library each morning, and never the same family two mornings running, so there's nothing for your brain to tune out. Handing you a sound picker would quietly undo the one thing the app is for.
Why is the alarm a different sound every morning?
Same reason — it's the anti-habituation design, not a bug. The sound is chosen from a bundled library of sirens, horns, machines, bells, weather and more. It's picked on your device, so it works with no internet connection, and the locked phone and the open app play the same tone.
What is Chaos Mode?
Chaos Mode fires the alarm at a random time inside a window around the time you set, rather than at the exact minute. You choose how wide the window is — from ±1 to ±5 minutes — so a 06:30 alarm with a level-5 window rings at some random moment between 06:25 and 06:35. The point is that you can't pre-brace for the exact second, which is what lets a heavy sleeper stay half-asleep through a predictable alarm. The window never crosses into another day, and turning Chaos Mode off rings you exactly on time.
Can I dismiss the alarm without doing the mission?
No — that's the point. Dismissal is gated behind the wake mission you chose (maths, typing, scanning a photo or QR code, and so on) rather than a button, so you can't swipe it away half-asleep. If a camera-based mission can't run because camera permission was denied, the app offers a maths mission instead so you're never locked out.
Why does snoozing feel so punishing?
By design. Snooze is a fixed 9 minutes and it breaks your streak on the free tier. Premium members get a limited number of streak pauses per week that a snooze will consume before the streak actually ends.
Privacy & data
Does the app record my audio?
No. The optional sleep sampler is off unless you turn it on, runs only while the app is open, and never reads, saves, or uploads the audio itself. It computes a loudness (decibel) envelope on your device and stores only derived numbers — estimated time to fall asleep, sleep duration, snore event counts and a restlessness score. There is no recording to play back, by us or by you. You can decline the microphone permission and use everything else normally.
Does Clock It detect my sleep cycle or movement?
No. Clock It uses no motion sensors — no accelerometer, no gyroscope — and does no sleep-cycle or "smart wake" detection. It will not wake you at a "light sleep" moment, because it has no way to know when that is. The randomness in Chaos Mode is exactly that: randomness. The optional microphone sampler above is the only sensor the app ever touches, and it only produces the loudness metrics described there.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the app, go to Profile → Delete account. This removes your account and the records attached to it — alarms, wake sessions, streaks, sleep metrics and subscription records, plus any images you uploaded such as a profile picture or a Photo Match reference photo — subject to limited retention required by law. You can also email us to request access to or deletion of your data. Note that deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription — see below.
Subscriptions & billing
How do I cancel my subscription?
Clock It Premium is billed by Apple through your App Store account, so cancellation happens in your device settings, not in the app: Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Clock It → Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends, or the next period will be charged. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled entirely by Apple — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We have no ability to charge, refund, or cancel on Apple's behalf.
I paid but Premium isn't unlocked
Open Profile and tap Restore purchases, making sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you bought with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us and include the date of purchase.
What is the Emergency Pass?
A one-time purchase that unlocks premium wake behaviour for a single morning. It is not a subscription, it does not renew, and there is nothing to cancel. It's hidden if you already have Premium, because Premium is strictly better.
